I've been thinking about getting a Mac Mini recently.but afraid of getting stuck in the ecosystem. But I would argue for an average user, you will find the base model to have enough horsepower and memory for your usage. I am sure if I was doing some really taxing chores like video editing, the extra RAM and faster processor options would be needed. Everything was running smoothly all open at the same time. At one time, a had several Adobe Photoshop projects open (and working on), several MS Word documents, MS Teams running (video conferencing), Adobe acrobat, Mac mail, and several tabs all open on safari. I was using the Mac mini on a dual monitor set-up including a 1440p and 1080p monitors. I am extremely impressed with this little beast. In addition, the money I saved on upgrading, I can use towards my next Mac mini in 5 years. So felt at $670 this was a very good deal. I decided that the cost of upgrading the RAM and/or SSD moved this up from a good value to the point where there might be other options to consider.

I contemplated which way to go, but ended on the base model. I bought the base model 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD. A couple of comments after using the Mac mini for a couple of weeks.
